Rabbi Darkside

Rabbi Darkside is a Brooklyn-based Hip Hop Artist, successfully operating independently for over a decade. His new album, Prospect Avenue, was released in June 2013 on Say Word Entertainment, after 2 years in the studio and a crowdfunding campaign that raised over $12,000. It has received extensive domestic and worldwide radio play, reaching the #4 on U.S. CMJ Hip Hop Charts and #1 on College Radio Charts Hip Hop, and includes guests Da Beatminerz (Black Moon/Smif-n-Wessun), DJ Rob Swift (X-Ecutioners) and Homeboy Sandman (Stones Throw). Fresh back from his 10th international tour in the last 4 years, Rabbi D continues to be featured on top-tier media outlets ranging from MTV (Head Coach on “Made”) to the New York Times to Europe 1 Radio, most recent highlights being selected to participate in the 2013 WNYC Battle of the Boroughs, premiering a music video on MTVHive and being a featured performer at the 2012 Atlantic Antic Festival (Brooklyn). Political while poetic, his content represents a broad array of civic interests and social justice causes, from public education to human rights to peace advocacy. He is renowned as an improviser and live performer (17-time Freestyle Mondays “Off the Head Gameshow” Champion; 2010 End of the Weak U.S. Co-Champion), easily negotiating genres and collaborations. His knack for engaging diverse crowds has brought him to venues varied as MOCA (Museum of the Chinese American, NYC) to teaching a course via telepresence at the Seoul Arts Institute (S. Korea) to Brooklyn Public School classrooms, and is also reflected in his notoriety as DJ, Beatboxer and workshop facilitator. He stands today as one of NYC’s most called upon entertainers and arts educators, honored in 2011 as a Hip Hop Education Fellow by NYU’s Steinhart School. He is the co-founder of the non-profit Hip Hop Re:Education Project, as well as the artist responsible for bringing the Hip Hop Subway Series to Europe. Rabbi Darkside has shared stages with Afrika Bambaataa, Antibalas, Blue Man Group, Common, Dres from Black Sheep, Eklips, Fishbone, DJ Rob Swift, J-Live, Sadat X, Slick Rick, Rahzel, Rosie Perez, Talib Kweli and Under Kontrol, among many others.
